What a Hoot Cross Stitch Pattern
This funky owl will jazz up a child’s nursery and provide many hours of joy – and we can think of plenty of grown-ups who’d love him too! lf you’d rather make a square cushion instead of a shaped one with dangly feet, just stick the felt feet straight on to the aida - easy! Materials: - 8 count bright pink aida, 40x43cm (16"x17") - Patterned backing fabric, 30x33cm (12"x13") - Felt scraps - One button - Stuffing - Embroidery floss <i>If using DMC...</i> White 563 602 605 741 742 744 996 3860 <i>If using Anchor...</i> 002 208 057 1094 304 303 301 433 379 <i>If using Madeira...</i> 2402 1207 0702 0613 0203 0114 0112 1103 1914

Using the cross stitch pattern, create the owl.

To turn the owl into a cushion, trim your stitching with 3cm (1¼") of excess all the way round. Cut a piece of backing fabric to the same shape.

Cut out felt shapes for the owl’s eyes, beak and feet. Use any color felt you like.

Stitch two felt ‘feet’ together. Pin them on the front of your owl. With right sides together, pin your fabric over the top of your owl. Machine stitch around the shape, leaving a gap for turning.

Turn right side out. Hand stitch the eyes in place. Attach the small circle to the large one with running stitch. Add a button or stitched curve. Attach using running stitch.

Attach the beak by stitching through the center of the diamond. Choose a stiff felt. Fold in half and iron over the fold. Finally, stuff the cushion, then slip stitch the gap closed.
