Necklace with Felted Wool Balls
Step 1
Mix together about 1 3/4 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of soap. Choose seven equally sized pieces of wool roving and shape them into balls. Dip one wool roving ball at a time into the soapy water, squeeze out the water, and roll it between your hands. The wool roving ball will shrink as it is being felted. The wool will continue to felt as your roll the ball between your hands. After you have worked the wool for a while, dip the ball in cold water and then in warm water. Repeat this process a few times for each ball. Finish felting all the balls, and let them dry.
Step 2
You may choose to decorate the felted balls with beads, embroidery floss, or felted wool yarn.
Step 3
Before the felted balls are completely dry, pass a darning needle through them, and then thread the felted balls on a thin grill skewer.
Step 4
Pull the felted balls off the skewer when they are completely dry. Thread a thin necklace chain through the holes in the felted balls, and place a thin, small, wool felt circle between each wool ball. Attach a hook and eye to the chain. You are now ready to wear your new necklace.
