Step 1
Measure the circumference of your head. Using tangerine chevron tape for the outside and white tape for the reverse, make a double-sided layered fabric. The width is the same measurement as your head circumference and the height is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) square up the sides. With a white strip of tape connect the ends to make an oval. This is the body of the hat.
Step 2
With black and white gingham tape and white tape, make a double-sided layered fabric large enough to fit the body plus 3 inches (7.5 cm) all around the perimeter. Place the body in the center of the fabric. Make slight adjustments to ensure it’s symmetrical. Trace the body onto the fabric from the outside.
Step 3
Measure and mark 2 inches (5 cm) all around the body, making an outer
oval. Cut out the inner oval piece. This is the top. Then cut out the outer oval. This is the hat brim.
Step 4
Cut and place a strip of white tape lengthwise, halfway along the inside
of the body’s top edge. Cut vertical slits, 1/2 inches (1.25 cm) apart, into the sticky border of the strip.
Step 5
Carefully attach the top’s edge to the body’s top edge. Press down the
sticky strip along the inside of the top as you work around the oval.
Step 6
Place a strip of white tape halfway along the inside of the body’s bottom edge, lengthwise. Cut vertical slits,1/2 inch (1.25 cm) apart, into the sticky border of the strip.
Step 7
Carefully attach the brim to the body’s bottom edge. Press down
the sticky strip along the backside of the brim as you work around the oval. This is the hat.
