Bring suspenders into the twenty-first century with a vibrant pattern and well-placed embellishments. This is the kind of project you can play up or play down according to your taste. Use neon colors and a heap of embellishments to create suspenders that can be paired with a costume for a party, or use a more subdued pattern with some subtle accent pieces for everyday wear.

MEASURE AND CREATE THE STRAPS.
Measure from the front of your waist, over your shoulder, to the back of your waist. Add 3 1/2" (89mm). Measure and trim a piece of duct tape of that length from a roll and fold it into a folded thin strip (see page 14). Repeat to make the second suspender strap.
FOLD THE END.
Take one suspender strap and place it facedown on your work surface. Fold one end of the strap over an inch (25mm).
ATTACH A CLIP.
Slide a suspender clip over the end of the strap, placing it in the fold you made previously. Make sure the clip is facedown like the strap.
SECURE THE CLIP.
Cut a 1" x 2" (25 x 51mm) piece of tape, place it sticky side up under the end of the strap, and fold the edges over the end of the strap to secure the clip in place. Repeat steps 2–4 to attach clips to the other end of the strap and both ends of the second strap.
EMBELLISH.
Add embellishments, such as layered rosettes (see page 24), to each suspender.
