Step 1
1. To use the templates, increase the images to twice their size and, cut out a paper pattern for the front of the hat, one for the back, and one for the bear ear. Pin the pattern pieces to the fake fur (you may find it easier to pin them to the back of the fur) and cut out. You will need four ears. Remove the pins and the patterns and set the front and back pieces aside.
Step 2
2. Using the template, cut out a paper pattern for the bear inner ear. Pin the pattern to the felt and cut out two inner ears. Pin a felt inner ear to two of the fur ears. Cut a length of thread and tie a knot at one end. Thread the needle. Working from the back of the fur ear, sew the inner ears to the two fur ears with running stitch. Finish with a knot on the back and trim the thread. Remove the pins. Sew the two remaining fur ears onto the back of these ears in the same way with running stitch.
Step 3
3. Lay the back part of the fur hat flat on the table with the furry side up. Position the ears on top of the fur so that the straight edges are touching the top edge of the back piece, and pin together. Knot one end of the thread again and, working from the back of the hat, sew the ears in place with a few running stitches. Finish with a knot on the back of the hat and trim the thread. Remove the pins.
Step 4
4. Lay the front of the hat onto the back, furry sides together. Pin the layers together, leaving the flat edge open. Sew them together using running stitch, starting and ending with a few small stitches to hold the thread in place. Turn the hat the right way out and put it on your head! If you want to make a tiger hat too, use the tiger ear templates instead of the bear ones.
Step 5
To use the templates, increase the images to twice their size and, cut out a paper pattern for the front of the hat, one for the back, and one for the bear ear.
