From yarn crawls to underground craft shows, this weekend's events offer a surprising alternative to the typical arts and crafts shows.

Cottonwood Art Festival

With over 200 artists, this juried festival curves around a small lake and features visual artists from around the nation. The children's event, ArtStop, allows kids to sculpt a hat from scrap or design a plaster artwork.

For the alternative crafter out there, consider this unique festival hosted by the Washington City Paper. Over 30,000 shoppers are expected to attend this free underground art event, and there is even a Young & Crafty section, where artists from ages 9 through 18 show off their latest creations.

Missouri is getting their craft on this weekend, as yet another unique craft event rips through St. Louis. This time, crafters can take a guided tour through the Innovations in Textiles 2011 exhibits.
