Enter the 'Mom & Me Knits' Contest to Win a $50 Gift Card

We're celebrating Mother's Day by asking you to show off your crafty talents. 

Stefanie Japel's new book "Mom & Me Knits" (Chronicle) is filled with patterns for matching pieces mother and daughter can wear. However, a mother and daughter may have styles that are quite different. To enter our "Mom and Me Knits" contest, we'd like you to innovate on Stefanie's pattern for a casual T-shirt and then upload a picture of your work to the Projects section before May 21, 2012 at midnight ET. 

The winner will get a $50 Michaels gift card plus a Chronicle Books gift pack that includes "Mom and Me Knits", "A Life in Stitches" and "The Sock Knitting Kit." Two second-prize winners will get a $10 gift card plus a copy of "Mom & Me Knits." Detailed directions are below. (Crocheters who can transpose a knitting pattern are also welcome to enter.)

1. Look at the Casual Tee Pattern

Follow the link to see Stefanie Japel's pattern for a casual knitted tee. (In "Mom & Me Knits she titles it the Surfer tee.) The page includes a version for a mother and daughter. Decide if you want to make the one for an adult or child (or both). We also want to invite crocheters to interpret the pattern.

2. Envision Your Version of the Casual Tee

Maybe you're going to decide to knit the tee out of a funky yarn that will make you look like a disco superstar. Or perhaps you'll replace the front pocket with a flower. We want you to take inspiration from the pattern and create something unique.

3. Make Your Casual Tee

You have from now, May 1, 2012, to May 21, 2012, at midnight to upload a picture of your tee. Pace yourself, but remember that finalists will be chosen by the number of comments on the post (more on that below).

4. Upload a Picture of Your Work

We want everyone to see your work. Take a picture of your Casual Tee and upload it to the Projects section of CraftFoxes by May 21st, 2012. Be sure to mention "Mom & Me Knits" in your title. If you're not sure how to upload a project you can click to read instructions here. (You need to sign up for an account to upload a project. Have no fear, becoming a CraftFox is free.) If you're under 13 you'll need to get a parent to enter the contest for you.

5. Get Folks to Comment on Your Work!

We're going to choose 3 finalists for the contest based on which projects get the most comments from different users. Be sure to ask friends to comment on your project. A comment can be as simple as "That's gorgeous!" The judges' panel (a combination of craft experts) will pick the winner based on the quality of the piece. All of the finalists will receive a copy of Stephanie Japel's "Mom & Me Knits." You can read the full rules here.
