Small Baby Afghan Blanket (Free Knitting Pattern)

Plymouth Yarn, who offered us this free pattern for a small baby afghan suggests 4 balls of their Dreamland and 3 balls of Dreamland Fancy. (It's a worsted yarn that's 70% Acrylic, 30% Nylon.)
 
Needles: US Sizes 7 & 10, or size needed to get gauge.
 
Finished size: 25” x 30”
 
Gauge: 4-1/2 sts=1” over st st on size 7 needles for Dreamland 2.5 sts =1” over garter st on size 10 needles for Dreamland fancy border.
 
This pattern results in a small blanket: Dreamland center piece: 20 x 25” Final size: 25” x 30” with border.

Step 1

With Dreamland & smaller needles, loosely cast on 90 sts.
Work in st st until total length is 25”, ending with a WS row.
Bind off.

Step 2

BORDER: With larger needles and Dreamland Fancy, pick up and knit 50 sts along each short end. Knit 1 row. Continuing in garter st, increase 1 st at the each end of every other row.
When total length is 2-1/2”, ending with a WS row, bind off.

Step 3

With larger needles and Dreamland Fancy, pick up and knit 63 sts along each long side. Knit 1 row. Continuing in garter st, increase 1 st at the each end of every other row. When total length is 2½”, ending with a WS row, bind off. Weave mitered corners together.
