Here's a quick rundown on how to do a straight stitch excerpted from the "Embroider Everything Workshop."
The straight stitch is as simple as an embroidery stitch can be. Insert the threaded needle into the back of the fabric and bring it to the front at 1 (see the diagram above). Insert the needle back down into the front of the fabric at 2. Approximately 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch up from 1 (see diagram). A single straight stitch is extremely versatile since it can be worked to any length and any angle with any thread.
