Knit Bowtie Headband

This beginner-friendly bowtie headband is just the thing for windy school days!
 
Skill Level: Beginner
 
Finished Dimensions: Sizes 6/8 (8/10)
Finished circumference is 16 (18)" [40.5 (45.5) cm]
 
Yarn: Patons Canadiana, a 100% acrylic medium weight yarn packaged in 3.5 oz/100 g balls containing 200 yds/182 m: 1 ball
 
Needles: 4.5 mm/US 7
 
Other Materials: Tapestry needle
 
Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st

Step 1

Headband
 
Cast on 21 (23) sts.
 
Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1, rep from * to end of row.
 
Row 2: P1, *k1, p1, rep from * to end of row.
 
Rep these 2 rows until work from beg measures 15 (15-1/2)" [38 (39.5) cm]. Bind off.
 
Sew cast-on and bound-off edges tog.

Step 2

Bow
 
Cast on 17 (19) sts.
 
Work in St st until work from beg measures 10" (25.5 cm), ending with a purl row. Bind off.
 
Sew cast-on and bound-off edges tog. Thread a running st through seam and pull tightly to gather
and fasten off.

Step 3

Bow Center
 
Cast on 5 sts.
Work in garter st (knit every row) until work from beg measures 2" (5 cm). Bind off.

Step 4

Finishing
 
With RS facing, wrap Bow Center around Bow over seam and sew in place. Sew Bow to Headband, concealing Headband seam.
