Richard Saja, a textile artist whose work has been featured in galleries in London and Philadelphia, creates artwork with bright embroidery floss stitches on traditional toile patterned fabric. What makes his designs unique are the often unexpected elements, such as a werewolf pushing a delicate maiden on a swing or, as pictured above, wealthy ladies and a gentleman gathered for gossip with violently colored, punk-rock thread hair. Sweet Paul magazine interviewed Saja about the source of his embroidery passion, his creative process and even tips for beginners wanting to launch into embroidery and needlework embellishment themselves.
