Did you know that September is National Sewing Month? In 1982, President Ronald Reagan declared the U.S. holiday “in recognition of the importance of home sewing to our nation.” On sewing's importance, we couldn't agree more. To help you celebrate the craft of sewing during September, we've rounded up some fun fabric events to celebrate National Sewing Month 2012.
The Sewing Loft will host a blog series in September to celebrate National Sewing Month. Each week, special guests will share their favorite tool in the workroom, besides their sewing machine. Some tools are sure to surprise you! There will also be a sewing contest, with more details to be revealed on the blog in September.
For more details on this National Sewing Month fest, visit The Sewing Loft.
As part of National Sewing Month,
Sew Beautiful Magazine is offering free patterns, prizes and more each day in September via their blog. Mondays are a designer challenge, Tuesdays will include book excerpts & exclusive content from sewing celebrities and Wednesdays they will show off reader projects. To round out each week, they'll post how-to videos each Thursday and offer big giveaways each Friday.

sewing tips and guidelines, from sewing ruffles to using a rotary cutter.
In September, Jo-Ann Fabrics stores will host a contest via their
Facebook page. "Sew Unique" is the name of the contest to help crafters celebrate National Sewing Month and it will be hosted by Christopher Straub from season 6 of Project Runway. The theme is sewing with unconventional fabrics, like ripstop nylon, vinyl and duck cloth. Entrants can win a $1,000 grand prize by sewing a project from Jo-Ann utility fabrics.
For more details, head to Jo-Ann's on Facebook after September 1.
Sew Delicious is hosting a series in September geared toward those new to sewing. From the craft of embroidery to buying your first sewing machine, the blog will host a great line-up of experts to get you started on your celebration of needle and thread.
